It’s that time of year again! This post needs an update! And I am happy to say that there are SO MANY NEW PLUS SIZE DRESSES!!!! I could just fall apart over how amazing the selection is this year!

I’ve got a thing for dresses. You could say we’ve been going steady for awhile now. It’s getting kind of serious. And as much as I would really really love to do an outfit of the day for every dress I own (or desperately want to own), there’s just not enough time to do so. So I figured a nice little round up of my favorite dresses would be a great way to show you all the options currently out there! Below my favorite dresses are a few pointers for shopping (online) while looking for plus size dresses, make sure you check ’em out! Let’s do this! oh yeah… you can check out the dress in the photo above right here 🙂

Eshakti Customizable Watermelon Dress

They now have a “fit guarantee” which means that even if you custom order one of their pieces you are able to return it and have it altered. I’m a big fan because they always carry adorable patterns, like this dress with watermelons on it, and serve bodies up to a size 36. Shopping tip: pay close attention to whether or not the item is woven or knit. Their knit items are plenty stretchy, but you’ll want to size up on any items that are woven.

Golden Knot Front Dress From CityChic

If you haven’t heard about City Chic’s incredible dresses, head over to this post to check out my review. Or just know – they’re amazing. They fit so well and this golden plus size dress would be an awesome addition to any spring wardrobe. Up to size 24, but know that they run a little large!

Plus Size Ditsy Floral Print 90’s Dress From Target

Alright, everyone knows that the 90’s are back. If you’re not ready to go full force and put your hair in those tiny flower clips, a little ditsy floral print will do in a pinch. Lots of stretch, and this dress goes up to 4x!

Striped Plus Size Dress From Macy’s

I sometimes forget that my favorite department store has a huge plus size section. But not this time!!! Macy’s has dresses from high end designers, and tons of affordable options too. This striped dress is a classic cut that would be perfect for work or play. Sizes 1-3x.

The Perfect White Dress From Eloquii

Nothing looks more sleek than a white dress in the spring time. Imagine running through the prairie with this gorgeous frock on – puff sleeves blowing in the wind! Eloquii’s sizing has changed a lot over the years, and they have really nailed their fit. Their garments are beautiful on plus size bodies, and go up to size 28!

Retro Floral Dress From Modcloth

Full of color and life, just like the spring flowers that are right around the corner! Modcloth’s signature line is switching from their traditional xl-4x sizing in favor for a numbered size chart and we are here for it! Better fit, better choices means better options for fat babes! If you love this retro look, you can check out those shoes here (pst – they come in a flat version too)!

Lace Goddess Gown From Torrid

If you’re looking for the perfect boho Goddess dress, I’ve got you covered. This light peachy-pink color is ethereal and calm and comes in sizes up to 30!

Floral Off The Shoulder Plus Size Dress From OldNavy

Old Navy remains a great staple for Springtime goodies. Their dresses are easy to wear, affordable, and up to 4x!

Sequin Wrap Dress From Asos Curve

If casual Spring dresses aren’t your thing and you just desperately need a little something extra then this sparkly number is for you. It’s lightweight, airy, and will look stunning sparkling in the Springtime sunshine! Up to size 24.

A couple things to keep in mind while shopping for plus size dresses (especially online):

  • It’s ok if it doesn’t fit! Check the store’s return policy before you buy. Remember that if you’re shopping online that means you aren’t in a fitting room getting anxious and having someone ask how you’re doing every 5 seconds. That’s pretty awesome and a trip to the post office to return something is well worth the time you’re getting back from not going to stores and trying on a million things.
  • Get a measuring tape, and check the size chart. If you are uncomfortable taking your measurements because you’re not weighing or measuring yourself, that’s ok. You don’t have to. Your measurements do not matter and you can return anything you don’t like.
  • Speak softly to yourself. If you get uncomfortable trying stuff on just sit down and take a breath and move on with your day. It’s just clothes, they do not define your worth. You are perfect whether that dress fits your backside or not.

You are such a great blogger. This is one of the very best of your posts. I'm partial to dresses, too. As a boutique owner who sells online, I just want to emphasize your advice to curvy online shoppers. Use a measuring tape--it will save everyone a lot of hassle. If you need to, you can tape two of them together to get larger measurements. That's what I do when I measure someone bigger. The return policy is soooo important in online shopping, I totally agree. And I love that you are reminding women that they are beautiful even if the dress doesn't show it! It's so true!!! I design dresses, and I can tell you that when I start with a new design, I have a specific body type in mind. I do just plus sizes, so I think to myself...what can I make that would look great on an apple shape, or pear shape, today? If someone with a totally different shape orders the dress and tries it on and doesn't like it--it's all OK. We just keep going until we find the perfect fit. Love you and your overall message.

I literally *just* found your blog and I'm already in love (was searching for plus size maternity clothes and came across the shopping post you did a while ago)! I've struggled with weight my entire life, and lost a ton of weight and did a lot of work on myself in therapy over the last couple of years... only to have some major things happen last year and totally relapsing and gaining back every bit of the weight--and now I'm pregnant. Needless to say, having to buy plus size clothes all over again--and not only plus size, but plus size MATERNITY--has definitely been rough on my self esteem. I may or may not have had a *slight* break down in a Motherhood Maternity dressing room a couple of weeks ago.

That being said, I appreciate the bullets at the end of this post, especially the third one. Being kind to myself is something I've really been struggling with, and seeing that reminder helped--a lot. Thank you.
